The Best Cuts of Steak

With so many steak cuts to choose from, ordering at a steakhouse can be overwhelming. That’s why we’ve ranked the variety of steaks offered at DC STEAKHOUSE—starting with the best. You’ll know just what to order the next time you make a reservation with us.

1. Ribeye

The ribeye is the juiciest and most flavorful cut, which is why it is considered the best cut of steak. It’s the go-to favorite for many steak lovers. The ribeye is the perfect choice, whether you’re celebrating something special or just craving that robust, meaty flavor. Keep in mind that a ribeye has a high fat content, which is what gives it all that mouthwatering flavor. At DC Steak House we offer both boneless and bone-in options for ribeye steak.

2. Filet Mignon

The filet mignon is a small but mighty cut of steak and a close second to the ribeye. If you prefer texture over flavor, then this is the steak for you. The filet mignon is a tender, melt-in-your-mouth steak. With much less marbling, and therefore less fat compared to other cuts, the filet mignon is a great choice for those looking for a slightly healthier, but equally as tasty cut, compared to the ribeye.

3. Porterhouse

Not sure if you want a strip or a tenderloin? A porterhouse steak is the perfect solution. This cut of steak is the best of both worlds because it features both a strip and a tenderloin. These deliciously tender cuts are drawn together by a t-shaped bone. The main difference between a porterhouse and a t-bone steak is that the porterhouse is much thicker and larger. If you’re looking to share or just want to enjoy as much steak as possible, then the porterhouse is the steak cut to choose.

4. Top Sirloin

Top sirloin is much less tender compared to other cuts of steak, but it still packs a lot of flavor. Top sirloin is the ideal option if you want all of the flavor of a steak but desire a healthier meal. Top sirloin steaks are best when ordered rare to medium rare. If they are cooked any longer, they can run the risk of a tough, chewy texture.

5. New York Strip

The New York strip is much like a ribeye but without all the fat. Did you know that a New York strip is the same as a Kansas City strip but without the bone? The New York strip is nearly as tender as the ribeye, making it the best choice for those who would rather avoid a high fat content without sacrificing too much tenderness or flavor. Just because this cut is ranked last, doesn’t make it a bad option. The New York strip is a classic because it is a middleground of texture, flavor and tenderness.
