What Is the Best Beer to Pair with Steak?

At DC STEAKHOUSE in Downtown Chandler, we support many American brewing companies on our menu. We even feature a few drinks from local Arizona breweries that pair well with a variety of dishes.

As steak experts, today we’re exploring which type of beer goes best with which type of steak. We put together this guide to help you choose the best beer to pair with your favorite cut of steak the next time you dine with us.

Four Best Types of Beer to Pair with Steak

American Pale Ale and Top Sirloin

Pale ale is a light-colored, moderately strong type of beer. While pale ales were first brewed in England, they have become extremely popular in the United States. An American pale ale differs from a British pale ale in that it has a much bolder flavor.

Its boldness is what makes an American pale ale the perfect pairing for the strong flavors of a muscular top sirloin. We offer the Devil’s Ale from Chandler-based SanTan Brewing Company, an American pale ale featuring pine and citrus flavors.

IPA and Ribeye

Many styles of India Pale Ale (IPA) tend to be more bitter than other ales because the brewing process involves a second round of hops. However, IPAs also have fruity flavors that help counteract their bitterness. The bitterness of an IPA counteracts the fattiness of a ribeye.

Copper State IPA from Huss Brewing Company in Tempe, A Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ from California-based Lagunitas Brewing Company, and SanTan Brewing Company’s Pebblehead Hazy IPA are just a few of the excellent IPAs we offer on our menu.

Light Wheat Beer and Filet Mignon

Flavorful, light-colored wheat beers are very versatile, and pair well with a wide range of foods. A light wheat beer like the Orange Blossom Ale from SanTan Brewing Company is the perfect match for a filet mignon. The refreshing taste of a light wheat beer helps cleanse your palate so you can savor every delicious bite of your steak.

Light Lager and Filet Mignon

Another beer that can enhance the flavor of a filet mignon is a light lager. The lower alcohol content of a lager prevents the crisp flavors of the drink from overpowering the more subtle flavors of filet mignon. Next time you’re in the mood for a fresh filet mignon from DC STEAKHOUSE, try pairing it with an Arizona Light from Huss Brewing Company or even a classic Miller Lite.
