What Is Filet Mignon Served With?

If you’re planning to cook a filet mignon dinner for friends or family, choosing the right sides to go with it can be overwhelming—which vegetables would pair well? As steak experts, we know what goes best with filet mignon and other types of steak at DC STEAKHOUSE. We offer a variety of perfect pairing options on our menu, so we put together this guide on what to serve with filet mignon to help you assemble a delicious meal that will impress your guests.

What Is Filet Mignon Best Served With?

Roasted or Grilled Vegetables

The best vegetables to serve with filet mignon are roasted or grilled vegetables that have been seasoned with herbs and spices. Roasting or grilling enhances the flavor of the vegetables, which balances well with the powerful taste of a filet mignon. Roasted brussels sprouts or carrots and grilled mushrooms or bell peppers are a few delicious options.

At DC STEAKHOUSE, all of our steaks are served with a side of savory sautéed mushrooms, but you can also choose grilled asparagus or sautéed brussels sprouts from our menu.

Potatoes (Roasted, Mashed, Baked, or Fried)

Potatoes are another great vegetable to serve with filet mignon. There are plenty of ways to serve potatoes, and they all pair well with steak. For instance, when you choose an entrée on our menu (including filet mignon) it comes with your choice of a baked potato, french fries, or peppery sweet potato fries. However, garlic mashed or roasted potatoes are also perfect options for your filet mignon dinner.

Salad

If you want a lighter side to pair with filet mignon this summer, a salad with seasonal vegetables or fruits is another lovely option. If you have any leftover steak, you can also use it as a salad topping the next day. Wedge salads and caesar salads are popular choices with a variety of steaks, however, you can never go wrong with any salad full of fresh, mixed greens and crisp vegetables. An acidic dressing like a balsamic vinaigrette will stand up perfectly to the flavor of a robust steak.

Pasta

Macaroni and cheese isn’t just comfort food, it’s also a classic side with a tender, juicy steak like filet mignon. You can make your mac and cheese pack a little extra punch by topping it with jalapenos or bits of bacon. Just remember that macaroni and cheese is a heavier, more filling side, so you don’t need much on your plate.

Garlic butter pasta is another great choice when it comes to pairing pasta with steak. Whether you use it in sides like pasta or mashed potatoes, or in the steak seasoning itself, garlic is the perfect herb to pair with steak thanks to its powerful flavor and its various health benefits. But when seasoning your dinner, keep in mind that too much garlic can easily overpower the flavor of your filet mignon.

Wine

When pairing wine and steak, red wine is always the best choice, because it amplifies the flavor of the meat. Naturally, we have a wide selection of reds on our menu to pair with your favorite steak. Filet mignon is best served with pinot noir, because the wine enhances the flavor of the steak without overpowering it.

If you prefer white wine, chardonnay is another good wine to pair with filet mignon because it has more body than other white wines. Chardonnay that has been aged in oak is an especially good choice because has a more buttery flavor that pairs perfectly with steak.
